There is much to be thankful for this holiday season and I want to thank you for your continued support and involvement in our organization.
The youth vote proved to be vital for Democrats in key races throughout California. We turned out in higher numbers than we did in 2008. It was the youth vote that helped pass Proposition 30, elect a supermajority of Democrats to our state legislature, and elect Democrats to key congressional districts throughout our state.
Thanks to your hard work, the California College Democrats were able to run the strongest and most sophisticated field operation in our organization’s history. Together, we were able to register tens of thousands of voters, distribute 30,000 voter guides while we identified thousands of Democratic supporters, and reached over 1,000,000 college students through our Proposition 30 social media campaign.
I would like to also thank those who have supported CCD and allowed us to build such a robust field effort. We are grateful to have the support of AFSCME 3299 - the UC Workers, our 2012-13 Advisory Council: Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom, Assemblymember Fiona Ma, Assemblymember Michael Allen, Joanna Rees, and Congressman-elect Scott Peters and, of course, our generous CCD Officer Alumni.
While we have won this round, we have a lot of work ahead of us and must ensure that Sacramento makes higher education a top priority. I am proud of what we accomplished together, we will continue to move our state forward and work towards a brighter future for all.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for all you do.
President, California College Democrats
